When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.
The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review
To co-opt, and corrupt a quote from 101 Dalmatians star Cruella DeVille, The Bold and the Beautiful lives for Paris Buckingham (Diamond White), they worship Paris Buckingham, and after all, is there a fan in this wretched world who doesn’t? Actually, yes; there are quite a few of us.
Paris may have been able to snow the likes of Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), and Hope Forrester Spencer (Annika Noelle); and yes, the majority of the menfolk from Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) to Zende Forrester (Delon de Metz) and from Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) to Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson); but she’s yet to win over this critic.
Maybe it’s because yours truly has a thing against a Disney Princess come to life. Or maybe it’s because The Bold and the Beautiful continues to tell me that I should like her. Or, maybe it’s because being perfection personified does not a real character make.
For months, yes, literal months – go back and check our archive if you disbelieve – this column has asked, begged, and pleaded with B&B to give Paris some actual depth, some flaws, an actual storyline, anything to make her interesting. But alas, the show only seems interested in having just about every other major player sing Paris’s praises, and expect that to suffice. It does not.
Further B&B Critic’s Musings
* If the Forrester’s are all about family, then why were Eric Forrester (John McCook), Quinn Fulton Forrester (Rena Sofer), Katie Logan (Heather Tom), Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis), Thomas and so many other assorted friends and relatives absent at the Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) and Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang)?
And why would The Bold and the Beautiful deprive us of its annual tradition of seating enemies in close proximity to one other and then forcing them *ahem* encouraging them to exchange a pleasantry?
Also, did Ridge really think it appropriate to dredge up, amongst other things, Liam Spencer’s (Scott Clifton) stint in jail, and Carter’s affair with Quinn?
Oh, and could Hope have put on any more of a sour face? If she didn’t want to be there and listen to Ridge hypocritically wax lyrical about family and togetherness, why did she even show up?
* If Jack Finnegan (Ted King) and Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) are going to adopt the line that Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) is the big and bad, and the source of all evil on the earth, then why run to her every. Single. Time?
Speaking of such action, when is Justin Barber (Aaron D. Spears) going to report back to Ridge that Deacon and Sheila are spending an inordinate amount of time together?
