A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: Rinse And Repeat

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

Oh joy, joy. The Bold and the Beautiful has reverted back to its overreliance on repetitive convos and flashbacks to scenes that have been relived about one hundred times.

I get it, you get, we all get it – Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) shot and killed her son and shot and grievously wounded Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). And we all understand that she wants Steffy dead – the first internal monologue put that in perspective; the second one reiterated; by the third, I was ready to pull my hair out.

I’ve also gotten it through my thick skull that Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) is dedicated to making Steffy’s transition out of the hospital and back to normal life as smooth as possible, and yes, I get that he loves her, that he’s always loved her, and that he always will love her till his dying day. I’ve got it!

I also get that Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) isn’t in the least bit happy about it. I could tell it by her facial expressions. I got it when she said as much to Liam and when she flat out said it to Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang).

I also understand that Eric Forrester (John McCook) and Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) are having problems. I was made aware of this Friday, and on Monday during a scene between Eric and Quinn, and then again in scenes between Quinn and Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) where they discussed a discussion that was just had and had been previously discussed the Friday before.

This is the kind of nonsense that gives soap operas a bad name. The Bold and the Beautiful used to be a propulsive melodrama with jaw-dropping cliffhangers at the end of every episode. I miss those days.

Further B&B Musings

* Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) is back and already making his larger-than-life presence felt. Thank. God! Now, let’s get him in a room with Steffy.

Speaking of Bill…we learned that he’d been away on business, but what’s Wyatt Spencer’s (Darin Brooks) excuse for not coming to check on his former Missus?

* Credit where it is due: MacInnes Wood was a revelation during the scenes in which Steffy learned that Finn hadn’t survived his injuries, and Kimberlin Brown’s trembling lip when Steffy triumphantly declared that she’d remembered her husband and baby boy damn near put a lump in my throat.

* Remember when Brooke could sense that something was amiss where Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) was concerned, and she soon learned that his daughter had been shot? She’d said it was because they were so in love, or in sync, or whatever it was that she could just tell it in her bones. What does it say about Liam and Steffy that he could sense that she was in mortal danger? Perhaps Hope does have cause for alarm.
