A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: Questionable Behavior

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

This week’s Bold and the Beautiful was enjoyable if not routine. John “Finn” Finnegan’s (Tanner Novlan) Veruca Salt impression (Don’t care how/I want it now!) tickled me. I howled when Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) pitifully and sincerely wondered, “Why does everyone make me do things that I regret?!” And I was pleased, though not at all surprised when Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) was revealed to be alive.

But here be the rub. Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) as Li’s guardian angel doesn’t work for me. The real Bill Spencer wouldn’t have given a disheveled woman in an alley the time of day. He would have turned his nose up, maybe, MAYBE threw a few loose hundreds her way, and kept it going.

When I begged The Powers That Be at The Bold and the Beautiful to give Bill a story, I didn’t want them to give him one that would see the character acting so, well, out of character. And no, having Bill tell Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) a few scenes earlier that he and his brother had made him, “a changed man,” does not cut it. If you want me to believe that elitist Bill would give Li the time of day, show me how he’s grown as a person; don’t tell me and expect me to buy it. This is and will continue to be, one of B&B’s biggest issues.

Further B&B Musings

* I just don’t understand Hope Logan Spencer’s (Annika Noelle) sudden squeamishness where Il Giardino’s is concerned.

She certainly didn’t have a problem darkening the establishment when Paris Buckingham (Diamond White) and Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) were set to wed there. Well, actually she was visibly uncomfortable, but that had nothing to do with location and everything to do with the fact that Paris had so obviously confused their work acquaintanceship for actual friendship.

Speaking of Hope, when she was all, “Ewwww! Yuck! Sheila is horrible. Who would want to be with her,” that was the time for Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) to remind Hope that Eric Forrester (John McCook) would. That’s who!

* In The Bold and the Beautiful verse, Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen) is a “world-renowned psychiatrist,” and we know that this is true because it’s been said nearly as many times as Brooke Logan Forrester’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) pondering, “Why did I drink that night?”

So, with that being said, why does Taylor seem so put out that Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) is getting treatment at a residential mental health facility? Is she scared of the competition?

Also, can Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) please shut up? He knows nothing about the human psyche, so when he’s told to stay put and butt out – in the nicest way possible – that’s what he needs to do. He does not know better than Steffy’s doctor.

* It’s a given that uniformed officers and plainclothes detectives on soap operas are dense, but are we really expected to believe that no one working at the prison or even Deputy Chief Bradley Baker (Dan Martin) himself could link Mike Guthrie (Ken Hanes), a known associate of Sheila’s, and a prison guard named Richard Michael Guthrie?
