A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Psychological Messaging & Potential

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic’s POV

Turns out Stephanie Forrester and Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) did have something in common — both possess (or in Stephanie’s case, possessed) serious Jocasta Complexes. They could have been friends all along.

Equally perturbing is Douglas (Henry Joseph Samiri) picking up his father’s mantel as the ultimate parent-trapper. To quote a fellow Soap Hubber, “WHY IS A CHILD THIS INVESTED IN HIS PARENT’S LOVE LIFE?! IT’S SO SO ICKY!”

It also isn’t cute. But rather than discipline the rugrat, Hope (Annika Noelle) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) just oohed and aahed at his ingenuity. Great message.

And speaking of messages, I’m still at a loss as to what B&B is trying to say in regard to Hope and Thomas. What I’ve gathered so far is, “Don’t worry psycho stalkers and killers of young women, eventually your obsession will succumb to your desires,” and “Ladies, the man of your dreams is actually the one who emotionally and psychologically abused you.”

Further B&B Musings

* And Luna (Lisa Yamada) is…where exactly? Way to immediately kill any and all potential plot momentum.

* Is it just me, or is Eric’s (John McCook) and Ridge’s (Thorsten Kaye) insistence that RJ (Joshua Hoffman) is the giftee of their gargantuan talents wearing a bit thin? You won’t ever read me saying much in Thomas’s defense, but it’s like his betters have forgotten he’s the lead designer of one of the company’s most successful lines. I’d say make it make sense, but this is B&B.

* Li (Naomi Matsuda) and Finn’s multi-episode convo was an excruciating exercise in futility as the pair did little more than speak in circles and the former actively avoided enunciating her transparent desire which was for Finn to just straight up go and kill Sheila dead. I pity the scriptwriters.

* While the Battle of the Logan Sisters has some juicy potential, the setup still comes at the expense of character throughline and continues to betray the long solid Brooke/Eric relationship.
