A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Plot Drivel, Continuity & Unappealing

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic Wonders

The Bold and the Beautiful’s issues with the very concept of continuity reared its ugly head again this week leaving me more confused than ever.

Is Taylor (Krista Allen) mad at Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) for not blindly taking Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) at his word, or is she just clutching at the straw that is she doesn’t think Brooke has been 100% honest where her feelings for [and actions towards] Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) are concerned, because, well, yes…Brooke hasn’t been ONE HUNDRED PERCENT honest about things, but then neither has Taylor so…glasshouse…stones…throwing…etc.

Either way, what it boils down to is Brad Bell treading the same damn ground and penning the same plot-driven drivel that’s weighed this soap down for nigh on thirty years.

And I’d sure love to meet the women [and what the heck, the men too] out there who actually find watching two aged femmes duke it out over one of the most patently unappealing male characters in daytime TV history entertaining because surely they must exist given the lengths Bell goes to pander to them — especially at the expense of the plethora of us who beg him on the regular for something, anything original.

Further B&B Musings

* Anyone else who read the spoilers for Friday’s airshow severely disappointed that “the real reason” RJ (Joshua Hoffman) returned home seems to be that he just wanted to play parent trap like his older siblings?

* At what point does a scene veer from recapitulation to out-and-out trolling of the viewers, because I’m fairly certain that Heather Tom [Katie Logan] and Lawrence Saint-Victor [Carter Walton] having to spend their screentime cooing, oohing, and awing over the thought of a “Bridge” reunion falls in the latter category.

* I have to admit that I chuckled at the interest — or lack thereof — that Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) showed in Hope’s (Annika Noelle) excoriation of her; the girl couldn’t even be bothered to stand and face her detractor or even real gaze in her general direction.

* I must need my memory checked [or more likely B&B needs to be reminded of the salient points of the very plot it engineered] because from what I recall, Brooke and Deacon (Sean Kanan) were no real love match. Sure, what they had was electric, white-hot even, but it wasn’t the grand love story that Deacon seems to remember it as [or, more precisely it wasn’t the grand love affair that B&B seems to remember it as].

* You know, Liam (Scott Clifton) has valid points…and I HATE siding with the likes of Liam.
