When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.
For quite some time now, The Bold and the Beautiful has suffered from an affliction known as “plotitis.” The symptoms include, but are not limited to, characters acting contrary to previously established disposition, and a distinct and obvious choice to ignore and/or rewrite lore.
You’ll also notice that little thought or care is put into the plot point as the only pressing concern is getting the players on your canvas from point A to point B in the shortest amount of time possible, regardless of whether or not you have to pretzel them and their motivations.
It was ordained that Hope (Annika Noelle) and Liam’s (Scott Clifton) marriage needed shaking up, therefore Hope became enamored of her chief tormentor. Just as suddenly, Hope concluded that her attraction to Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) was the result of her husband’s [supposedly obvious] divided loyalties.
And just like that, the two signed divorce papers, and Hope was free to pursue the [apparent] love of her life. [And who says an obsessive’s persistence doesn’t pay off?]
Concurrently, with Jacqueline MacInnes Wood soon to go on maternity leave, the scriptwriters have set the stage for a monumental reckoning for her and her hubby. First, there’s the secret she’s keeping about the two smooches that Liam planted on her. And now, Finn (Tanner Novlan) has suddenly developed a longing to be held by his birth mommy which Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) was all too happy to fulfill.
It makes zero sense, or, about as much sense as Finn randomly developing a chip on his shoulder where Liam is concerned, but the scene must be set for a domestic blowup, so there you go. It’s plot over character, it’s what The Bold and the Beautiful does best, and it seems to be the only thing it knows how to do.
