A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: Not Really Tracking

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

On the one hand, The Bold and the Beautiful is feeling like a real soap opera again, what with its multiple, interwoven storylines and daily cliffhangers. On the other hand, two of those major plots just aren’t making any sense

It was only a month or two ago that Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) was ready to sacrifice all he had for the love of Paris Buckingham (Diamond White). Then came her meddling mama, and Carter decided that he couldn’t allow Paris to sully her name and reputation by choosing him over the prize that was Zende Forrester (Delon de Metz).

And now, he’s giggling with Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) and fronting like he never felt anything for Paris and she was only a rebound because he couldn’t have the lady that he really wanted – Quinn, her fine self. Huh? None of that really tracks, does it?

Then there’s Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown), The Bold and the Beautiful’s resident crazy. For all intents and purposes, she’s gotten away with murdering her son and grievously injuring Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), and she blows her spot up because she’s desperate to hold her grandson? Really? She’s got a granddaughter down in Florida; why not go down there and hug on her? She’s got four other kiddos out there in the ether – go and bother one of them.

What does seem wholly plausible, is Eric Forrester (John McCook) trysting with honey enthusiast Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis). It’s totally in keeping with Eric’s character to be unfaithful, Donna’s proven to be the only lady in town who can get his engine going without the aid of a *ahem* jumpstart, and as far as I’m concerned, he and Donna should be endgame anyway.

Less feasible, though surprisingly enjoyable this time around, is Ridge Forrester’s (Thorsten Kaye) continued waffling between Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen). I just hope this particular point is resolved in as quick a fashion as Steffy’s regaining those blocked memories.

Further B&B Musings

* Here’s hoping that The Bold and the Beautiful learns from their failure to score nominations in either the directing or writing categories for the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Copious amounts of flashbacks to events that have either just transpired or have been shown ad nauseum does not an exciting episode make, nor does cutting from one set of characters discussing a topic to another set of characters discussing the same topic or characters endlessly repeating the same questions to themselves ala Brooke and her near-daily refrain, “Why did I drink, I don’t understand why I drank.”

* What’s it going to take for Bold and Beautiful (see what I did there?) Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) to wise up and decide, once and for all, that she deserves better than Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton)? And for the first time in a long time, I actually felt that Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) was actually being genuine in explaining to Hope that Liam would always prioritize Steffy and Kelly.
