When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.
The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic Is Shook
It’s rare for The Bold and the Beautiful to have true continuity from episode to episode — one day Liam’s (Scott Clifton) extolling Hope’s (Annika Noelle) efforts to prioritize him and their marriage over her duties at Forrester Creations and the very next he’s grousing about another late night, another canceled dinner — rarer still for the soaps’ characters to actually recall events long since past — for example, how jarring was it to hear Hope throw Liam’s “track record” in his face?
On any other daytime serial such a comment would be expected — as would Hope’s bringing up Steffy’s previous machinations to tear the asunder — but hearing it spoken on B&B left me mouth agape.
What The Bold and the Beautiful does excel at, however, is really hammering home a point. Hope is starting to feel…something for Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) and we are reminded of that nearly daily via flashbacks to times the two of them were in sync creatively or in close proximity to one another.
Hope’s fidelity to Liam is also an issue du jour, therefore character upon character upon character hounds her ad nauseam as to whether or not she has feelings for Thomas.
It’s lazy, lazy writing, but it apparently works for this show, so they aren’t going to change it anytime soon.
Further B&B Musings
*Just when I’d all but forgotten about the Bill/Katie/Carter triangle that’s playing out offscreen there’s Bill (Don Diamont) to provide a pseudo update. What’s that Bill? Zero progress has been made? Roger!
* Perhaps this is a controversial opinion, but watching a woman continually sing the praises of her abuser to her own husband is sickening and I think it says A LOT about the writer penning the long-term story [and what it says isn’t particularly complimentary].
