A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: Hot Lines & Bad Wardrobe

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

I frequently deride The Bold and the Beautiful for its poor pacing, lack of parallel plots, and roundabout dialogue, but that won’t be the case this week. Instead, I’m handing out kudos to the soap for featuring two storylines throughout the week – Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) uncovering Li Finnegan’s (Naomi Matsuda) secret and Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) coping an eye and earful of her auntie and play grandpa – and listing my favorite lines.

Hope had some of the biggest whoppers. When Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis) got all tongue-tied during her efforts to explain just what it is that’s going on between her and Eric Forrester (John McCook), Hope helpfully sniffed and spat out, “Yea, an affair. I get it!”

Then, when Donna thanked her for not flat out calling her a homewrecker, Hope got a great dig in at Brooke Logan Forrester’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) expense – “Do you know who my mother is?”

I also got a big belly laugh out of Hope relaying to Eric her opinion that he was a man who, “believed in the sanctity of marriage.” Clearly, she’s not catching up on all those classic episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful on YouTube.

Sheila also had some doozies, including this gem – “Finn…I didn’t kill you, baby. You’re still here – and what was surely the crowd-pleaser – [to Li] “You’re crazier than I am!”

But the one that really got me, was Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) bemoaning, “How can this happen to me?!” in the aftermath of learning that Sheila was out on the prowl. I was so taken aback by that I actually thought to myself, “There’s no way. There is NO WAY that that man just made this all about himself.” So, I turned on my closed captions…and I’ll be darned if he didn’t!

Further B&B Musings

* A Legitimate (And Hilarious) Question Posed By A Soap Hub Editor:

“What the hell was Hope wearing…? Did The Bold and the Beautiful inherit the wardrobe from Texas?”

I, they, we need an answer!

* Yep, Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) and Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) still have it going on. It’s nice to see that the heat hasn’t dampened.

The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Los Angeles, check out all the latest that’s been posted on B&B spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
