When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

Never underestimate The Bold and the Beautiful’s ability to sabotage itself. Had the soap somehow managed to go on hiatus following Monday’s episode, I would have declared the offering the best daytime had to offer.

Between Steffy Forrester Finnegan’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) epic takedown of Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown), the villainess’s chilling parting shots, and the conclusion to the long-running – and highly repetitive (read: annoying) – “mystery” of why Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) had the urge to drink on New Year’s Eve, it was delicious dramatic goodness.

And then it went South. Fast.

Sure, it was fun seeing the likes of Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks), but after some good-natured family ribbing, the men’s “bonding sesh” with Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) turned into nothing more than a recap of what went down between Brooke, Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye), and Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), which we just got on Monday via Brooke’s chat with Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle), and which we would get again, and again and again.

In truth, the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful simply shouldn’t have existed. Each and every one of them was merely recapitulation.

When Eric Forrester (John McCook) and Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) happened on the scene, I thought, FINALLY, we’re going to pick up the threads of another storyline i.e. Eric’s extramarital dalliance with Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareris), but no. The couple was there to do nothing more than parrot what had already come before.

In fact, the only other developments over the whole week’s worth of shows were Ridge declaring his intentions to move back in with his play daddy and Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) being called on the carpet for keeping mum about Sheila sabotaging Brooke’s sobriety.

On that latter point, I just want to say this – where the heck does Ridge get off acting all high and mighty? Before he rages at Thomas for not coming clean sooner, perhaps Ridge should have a think back to all the lies that he’s told and all the secrets that he’s kept. Could it be that Thomas learned to fib at the feet of the master?

Further B&B Musings

It’s Like He’s Seen The Show Before: “Brooke tells Sheila she’d never compare her pain to Steffy and Finn’s……. why do I feel the next thing she’s going to do is compare pains?” – Anonymous Bold and the Beautiful superfan.
