A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Flashbacks and Villains

The author’s opinions on B&B are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review and a cheeky critique of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic’s POV

That “Bridge” centric episode sure was something, huh? And the decision to edit around original cast member Ronn Moss [ex-Ridge Forrester] and insert a curly-haired Thorsten Kaye [current Ridge Forrester] lookalike where applicable was something else entirely. And as for those photoshopped snaps and portraits of Kaye “as” his alter ego, well…As if Ridge 1.0 would EVER wear flannel!

And if I gleaned anything from the special, it’s that B&B is seriously strapped for cash. What else would explain the complete absence of any clips featuring Susan Flannery’s Stephanie and/or the distinct use of an original tune rather than the couple’s signature refrain, “Unforgettable?”

But all in all, I’d take what was on offer again over the tedious, banal discussions of Eric’s (John McCook) waning health, Ridge’s lacking attempts to justify keeping everybody that isn’t his kids in the dark about Eric’s plight (So now you’re going to start honoring Eric’s wishes?), and Zende’s (Delon de Metz) sudden swerve to the dark side because OF COURSE he’s going to do something villainous in light of feeling betrayed. (Lord forbid he just goes to Eric and vent his frustrations with the one he’s truly cross with.)

And not for nothing, but Zende had a couple of solid points. Also, I think it would greatly behoove the writing team to confront the elephant in the room head-on because it’s clearly not lost on a great majority of us that, of all the characters related in some way to Eric currently on canvas, only the one of color is left in the dark.

Further B&B Musings

* Had anybody else just out and out forgotten that Kristen and Tony were designers?

* I’ve frequently complained that this soap introduces plot points with all the subtlety of a falling anvil, but thanks to that patented style of storytelling, it’s clear exactly what the writers intend to do with Luna (Lisa Yamada) and Bill (Don Diamont). Here’s hoping that Wyatt (Darin Brooks) will return to welcome his newly discovered sister into the family fold.

* What does it say about Forrester Creations that their entire operation apparently depends on one line at a time? Clearly, Hope For The Future isn’t as successful as we’ve previously been led to believe, or it would be able to exist alongside the couture line rather than fall victim to it.
