A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Camouflaging Drama With Locale

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic’s POV

After spending five days wondering to myself and my coworkers just what was the point of The Bold and the Beautiful sending a contingent to Rome it finally dawned on me — the soap was desperate to distract from the fact that they were repeating well-worn plot points from storylines past.

Ridge’s (Thorsten Kaye) sudden recovery from his ennui owning to the view through a magic peephole was just as ridiculous and unearned as his resolve to reclaim Taylor (Krista Allen) after that pinecone landed on his noggin. [And of course, there was Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor), playing Cupid for his bosses like he’s done time and time again.]

Liam’s (Scott Clifton) trek through the streets in search of his wife smacked of Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) desperate bid to locate Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) in Monaco and his subsequent sobbing in Steffy’s arms and the utterly predictable kiss he planted on her was an unnecessary repeat of #MannequinGate.

Though they attempted to dress it up, B&B couldn’t hide the fact that they were presenting the same old, same old storylines in a new [I’ll grant them, gorgeous] locale.

Further B&B Musings

* While we’re questioning questionable choices, what was the point of Eric (John McCook), Paris (Diamond White), Zende (Delon de Metz), and RJ (Joshua Hoffman) gathering together at Forrester Creations? Was it to remind the audience how ridiculous it was that Zende, Thomas’s (Matthew Atkinson) co-designer, wasn’t attending the preview in person? If so, mission accomplished.

Another major oversite? Why not have RJ, who we’ve been told time and time is a MAJOR social media influencer, on the ground in Rome, live streaming Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Hope’s (Annika Noelle) preening and posing to his mess of followers? A viewing party of that footage would at least explain the show’s “B Team” meeting at the office.

Also, Hope lays not one, but TWO smackers on Thomas, and rather than, oh, I don’t know, addressing the W.T.F. of it all, they simply clasp hands and go strolling along until they spy a café that strikes their fancy?! Huh?! What?!

* So, Hope For The Future stands for “creating fashion with a social conscience” and nurturing and protecting the world for future generations, huh? How…exactly? Are the fabrics made from recycled materials? Are the proceeds given entirely to charity?

And has there ever been a more less-cohesive fashion label in the whole of fake fashion labels? One minute HFTF is shelling flapper dresses, the next it’s diaphanous sheets over underwear, and the next it’s a Glinda the Good Witch-inspired ensemble updated for 2023.
