A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: A Whimper Heard In L.A.

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

No matter the decade or which Bell – be it Bill or Bradley – is at the helm, The Bold and the Beautiful has never been a subtle soap opera. Therefore, when the flashbacks to times gone by began, viewers surely knew that John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) wasn’t long for this world.

Another accepted fact in regard to The Bold and the Beautiful is that this is the soap that oversells.

Remember that big murder mystery that was really going to shake things up? You know, the one that wound up being neither a murder nor much of a mystery nor having any real repercussions whatsoever.

Well, here we are once again. There was a promise that something big was a-coming. Something that would fundamentally augment the world in which our characters lived. And as it stands, killing Finn isn’t going to live up to that hype.

For starters, weeks and even a month or two have gone by without a sighting of the man, and it sure didn’t cause a stir. And it’s not like Finn was ever really a big part of the Forrester family.

Did he even share a scene with Eric Forrester (John McCook), Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer), Zende Forrester (Delon de Metz), or anybody else who wasn’t Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye), or Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) post-wedding ceremony? Oh, right, he and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) did share a heated word or two over Sheilagate. I almost forgot that.

How exactly will Finn’s death impact anybody on the canvas save for Steffy? As per usual, it’s a swing and a miss for The Bold and the Beautiful.

Further B&B Musings

* Do you think anybody from The Young and the Restless will let Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) know that Diane Jenkins is back among the living and throwing him under the proverbial bus?

The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Los Angeles, check out all the latest that’s been posted on B&B spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
