A Critic’s Review of Bold and the Beautiful: Love Fest and Anger Fest

The author’s opinions on B&B are hers and hers alone. Just know this: everything’s based on pure emotion, be it right or totally off.

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion — and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between. Here we lead with optimism. Unfortunately, we don’t always get what we want. So here’s a review of B&B’s week that was.

What I’m Feeling This Week: Perplexed over Li and Poppy’s Relationship

I’m hoping B&B will eventually reveal more about Poppy (Romy Park) and Li’s (Naomi Matsuda) sisterly relationship. We’re getting a little bit through their numerous arguments, but it’s not enough.

As for Li, why is her anger so blazing hot? We never really get an explanation of why she feels Poppy could cause so much damage to Finn’s family. I mean there was that hospital story of Poppy working there and taking up with a married doctor. It supposedly caused all this destruction?

As for Poppy, is everything that Li’s saying true? I’m not able to weed out the truth from the occasional conflicts that seem one-sided. A whole lot of Li yelling and demanding and putting Poppy on notice. I’m just going to sit back and wait for the nuance to come. Because I love both actresses and I think they could make a great family permanently added to the canvas.

Are these two harboring a secret, maybe something about Bill (Don Diamont) being Luna’s (Lisa Yamada) father potentially? I don’t know. I’d really appreciate these volatile moments being scaled back so we can see what the sisters are really like together. Also, I would prefer to see Li as the three-dimensional badass she used to be when she was cutting down Jack (Ted King) or facing Sheila (Kimberlin Brown).

I would also appreciate a more effective argument for why she wants to boot Poppy and Luna out of Los Angeles.

Other B&B Thoughts

Is it Just Me Or…: Did a lot of this week feel like filler? We had multiple montages. Although, don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining too much since the montages focused on Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn (Tanner Novlan). Also, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) and Hope (Annika Noelle). In addition, we had flashbacks of recent scenes and characters just sitting there as they thought back to the past couple of weeks. That, I am complaining about.

Loved it. Can We Move On?: Loved Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) getting his moment with Eric (John McCook). He deserved it after all those weeks and weeks of angst. But now I’d like the Forrester’s world to open up again.

Totally Feeling: While, I’m not feeling how Finn’s developed an anti-Thomas stance, what I do love is all the Dr. Finn love coming at him from the Forresters. I just want them to remember this love if/when Liam (Scott Clifton) comes after Steffy again.

Thank You, Show: This was a whoa moment for me. When Bill and Liam chatted about Bill’s love life, he did talk about it not working with Katie (Heather Tom). I really appreciated that little beat. Because I wondered why he simply stopped pursuing her all of a sudden. Now can we see what’s going on with Katie and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor)?

Bring Them Back: I should have asked this much earlier, but where in the world are Thorne (Winsor Harmon) and Bridget (Ashley Jones)? Did they just go back to their lives, and we were never actually told? Or did I miss something? Because they disappeared with no fanfare whatsoever. And I loved seeing them interacting with their family. They should be there for Eric’s recovery.

Also, in the Spencer world, Wyatt (Darin Brooks) leaving the way he did was, again, super-disappointing. I’m glad Wyatt will no longer be a “talk to” character since he hasn’t had a story in a while. But I don’t want the B&B universe to get narrower. Here’s to hoping they expand the world a bit so we get more options and opportunity for surprises. Why won’t he be around now that it looks like his dad is about to find out he has a daughter? At the end of this week, that was all everyone could suddenly talk about. Would love to get Wyatt’s opinion at some point, should the character ever return.
