A Critic’s Review of Bold and the Beautiful: Innocent or Guilty?

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion — and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between. Here we lead with optimism. Unfortunately, we don’t always get what we want. So here’s a review of B&B’s week that was.

What I’m Feeling This Week: Being Heard

I remember a few months ago, I kept thinking, why aren’t we hearing about the Forrester world from Thomas’s (Matthew Atkinson) perspective (I even wrote an article about it)? He was a part of storylines but missed many of the more significant conversations.

While the jury’s still out on whether I’m completely on board with this Xander (Adain Bradley) accusing Thomas of murder story, what I’m loving is that he’s finally saying something. Something other than just his “I love you, Hope” mantra. In Friday’s episode, he told his story of the night Emma Barber (Nia Sioux) died. Now it’s up to Hope (Annika Noelle) to figure out whether she can live with what he confessed.

Meanwhile, Zende (Delon de Metz) is voicing his thoughts and opinions a lot, especially where RJ (Joshua Hoffman) is concerned. And I’m here for it. Well, this week, RJ reached a point where he couldn’t hold back. He subsequently unloaded all over Zende, expressing how, basically, pathetic the designer was for trying to trick Luna (Lisa Yamada) into a date. We’ll see who wins that war at the end of the day.

Also, Xander made sure his voice was heard, showing up at Finn’s more than once to tell him about what happened all those years ago. Now he has Finn believing Thomas is a murderer, which isn’t doing him any favors with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood).

Finally, Hope held her own with Liam (Scott Clifton), who’s acting all kinds of dastardly. First, he smirked his way through demanding answers to whether she loves Thomas. Second, he smirked his way through demanding she return his engagement ring to him.

I like all this speaking your piece.

Other Soap Thoughts

Still Processing: Finn vs. Thomas. Not going to lie. This isn’t a rivalry I wanted or was prepared for, but I’m reserving judgment. In my head, I wanted Finn and Thomas to become allies against Liam. Is that wrong of me?

Most Hilarious Moment: Thomas doing his best Finn impression…to Finn. “As long as I live and breathe, you will never be with Hope.” Please keep more fun moments like this coming.

Ouch, That’s Gotta Hurt #1: Zende labeling RJ “entitled” and a “golden child.” Then RJ clapping back by calling Zende pathetic, and telling him he needed to grab his sketchbook and back off. I’m giving Zende the edge here. Although, ultimately, Luna prevailed.

Ouch, That’s Gotta Hurt #2: Luna friend zoned Zende. She didn’t even seem a little torn. Maybe someday, as she gets to know Zende more, that sort of nuance will enter the equation.

Favorite Social Media Theory: Liam is responsible for Xander’s return. I spotted this potential theory on social media, and now I can’t unsee it. I mean, did you see today when Liam kept harping on Thomas the murderer? He seemed to be twirling his mustache at times. And now I really, really, want it to be true. That would explain why Xander suddenly — out of the blue — popped up as Finn’s patient. Chaos and conflict caused — Liam could take down two couples without that much effort. Please. Make. This. Happen. Just for drama’s sake.
