On March 23, The Bold and the Beautiful will celebrate 32 years on the air! Unlike other soaps, the shows had the same creative vision at the helm for decades! Now, showrunner Bradley Bell previews what the rest of the year will bring!
Bell spoke to Parade to discuss what’s next for the Forresters, Logans, Spencers, and Sally Spectra!
The B&B exec says that the secret of Hope’s baby will have “so many twists and turns. I just feel so confident that this story is going to be a real standout for the series. We have incredible actors, Scott Clifton (Liam), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy), and Annika Noelle (Hope).”
BB is known for its social issue storylines. In the show’s first year, it addressed breast cancer with Beth Logan (Nancy Burnett) and went on to tackle child sexual abuse with Jake MacLaine (Todd McKee), alcoholism with Macy (Bobbie Eakes), and homelessness with Stephanie (Susan Flannery).
“We also have another social issue storyline,” Bell previewed. “I can’t get into it, but for 2019, we’re doing some research and that’s something I look forward to penning this year.”
One of the secrets to the show’s success is in keeping the same core families on the canvas throughout the years.
Recently, the show recast the role of Thomas with Matthew Atkinson (ex-Austin, The Young and the Restless). “He’s going to stir the pot and bring a little trouble with him. It’s also great to have Hunter Tylo as Taylor back on the show.”
There’s an old saying that “life begins at 30,” but as far as B&B is concerned “life begins at 32!”
“We’re as enthusiastic today as we were in 1987 when we kicked off the show,” Bell adds. “We promise there’s much more drama yet to come!”
The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
