Tributes are still coming in for the late Betty White, who died just shy of her 100th birthday. The star played Ann Douglas on The Bold and the Beautiful and the half-hour soap is planning to honor the late legend in an upcoming episode.
On Monday, January 17, the soap will dedicate its episode to her. As White passed away on New Year’s Eve and B&B was on hiatus at the time, we’re thinking that the episode in question was already in the can and that B&B will add a dedication to White at the end of the episode — as opposed to Eric Forrester (John McCook) and Pam Douglas (Alley Mills) sitting around sharing memories of Ann.
In any event, The Bold and the Beautiful didn’t arbitrarily choose January 17 as the episode it would dedicate to White. It is the actress’s birthday and, had she lived, she’d be turning 100 years old.
During her tenure on B&B, White played out two stories as Ann Douglas. First, her daughter Stephanie (Susan Flannery) confronted her over her being silent when Stephanie’s father physically abused her as a child. Betty White played Ann as a woman who remained, for the most part, in steely denial that her husband was ever abusive to Steph. Taylor Hayes helped explain to Stephanie’s family that her being abused as a child led to her being so controlling with her own loved ones later in life.
Stephanie and Ann shared a bittersweet reunion at Christmas despite what had transpired in the past. Later, Betty White reprised Ann in a right-to-die storyline. Faced with a terminal illness, Ann insisted that she die on her own terms — not in a hospital but out by the ocean. Stephanie and Pam sat with their mother until she took her final breath.
Viewers will want to tune in not only to keep on top of the show’s current storylines but also to see the planned dedication to Betty White, who will forever be remembered by soap fans not only for being a legend but as a star who came to daytime and shined brightly.
