The Bold and the Beautiful Critic's Review May 2

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of BB’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

We’ll admit it. We are sometimes…okay, we are usually extremely critical of BB. But that’s not because we hate this show. In fact, it’s because we love it – or, at the very least, want to love it again.

We believe, wholeheartedly, that BB has the potential to be the exciting, thrilling, swoon-inducing soap that it once was in times long past. And after what we’ve seen of late…we have to say that we are cautiously optimistic.

The Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor)/Quinn (Rena Sofer) affair is one of the best made decisions in recent memory. Having Liam (Scott Clifton) FINALLY accept the fact that he’s gotta keep quiet about his role in Vinny’s (Joe LoCicero) death was a welcome development. Fingers crossed this means no more endless debates with Bill (Don Diamont) over right and wrong.

And we’re not hating the sudden sisterly bond that’s sprung up between Zoe (Kiara Barnes) and Paris (Diamond White). THIS is how the relationship should have been presented from the get-go – and then the show should have slowly but surely built towards an epic love quadrangle starring the Buckingham sisters, Carter, and Zende (Delon de Metz).

But now that we’ve given BB its props, it’s time to point out what still needs mending. While we appreciate the fact that one of our biggest nitpicks has been addressed – and that would be the tendency to focus on one storyline and one storyline alone – we still want to see three and possibly four times as more drama.

The Quarter drama and the fallout from Vinny’s death are stellar, but we also want, no, make that need, to see other tales being told. Is Bill still trying to win back Katie (Heather Tom)? Do Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) really have nothing better to do than talk ceaselessly about other folks’ messy lives? And how about elevating Paris and Zende to front-burner status?

Another issue? Hope (Annika Noelle) and her gullibility. After spending just a few weeks icing Liam out, she’s suddenly gung-ho to welcome him back with open arms?

Has he even learned his lesson? Is it possible that Hope is just desperate to get a father figure back into her children’s lives? She did, after all, pointedly remind Brooke that it was difficult not having a permanent one in her own life.

And we guess that we would indeed rather have Liam as a father than no one at all. Maybe Hope knows what she’s talking about. But wouldn’t it be better to just start fresh with a new feller?

Further BB Musings

* How many more of Bill and Liam’s conspiratorial conversations will Wyatt (Darin Brooks) interrupt? And wouldn’t it just be some twisted cosmic justice if it’s the youngest Spencer who winds up revealing the big hit-and-run coverup…and all because he really, really wanted that fancy sports car?

* Who exactly filled Paris in on Quinn’s laundry list of crimes? The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
