Katie hasn’t made up her mind yet on reuniting with Bill on The Bold and the Beautiful, but her portrayer, Heather Tom, is still dealing with big drama. The Daytime Emmy-winning actress has put on her director’s hat and is stepping behind the lens at The CW series Dynasty.
Heather Tom Directs Dynasty
“Derby day on the set of #dynasty,” Tom posted on Instagram. In the photograph below, Tom can be seen not only wearing protective gear but she’s dressed in a hat that has a Kentucky Derby theme! (The Kentucky Derby is set to take place today, Saturday, May 1.)
“I’ve been here directing for 6 weeks and I’m about to wrap up!” Tom adds. “This is part of our covid protocol- Joe props hooked me up right! #directorslife #onlocation #atlanta #derbyday #derby.”
Joe Connolly, who works in Dynasty props’ department, wrote on Tom’s post: “It’s nice to be nice to the nice,” followed by a smiling face emoji. If that particular line sounds familiar, it was used by the character Major Frank Burns (Larry Linville) on the TV series M*A*S*H in the 1974 episode titled Henry in Love.
LOVE THIS!” enthused Kate Mansi (ex-Abigail, Days of our Lives), who has pursued directing, too.
In 2018, Tom was selected to take part in the CBS 2018-19 Director’s Initiative. “I can’t wait to meet these talented directors,” Tom said on Instagram at that time. “I’m so honored to be a part of the CBS directors program!”
In the past, Tom has directed episodes of BB, The Young and the Restless, and Good Trouble, the Freefrom series, helmed by her BB sister-in-law Joanna Johnson (ex-Karen).
Dynasty, a revival of the top-rated sudsy dramas that aired on ABC in the 1980s, is set to debut its fourth season on Friday, May 7, 2021. Dynasty stars Grant Show (ex-Rick, Ryan’s Hope; ex-Jake, Melrose Place) as patriarch Blake Carrington, the role played in the original Dynasty by the late John Forsythe.
No word on how many episodes Tom directed, but if she was there for six weeks, it’s quite possible she directed multiple ones. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
