Fan favorite Melody Thomas Scott recently joined Soap Hub Insiders and Soap Hub editors to share intimate details of her memoir Always Young and Restless. The Young and the Restless star not only has over 40 years of life in Genoa City to describe, but also her challenging childhood, and details of what it was like to be a young star in Hollywood.
Scott revealed how long she’s been working on her autobiography, and why it was important to have her family’s input on stories from some of the more emotional moments of her life. She also mentioned having had a title for her tome, but needed to change it after her publisher weighed in.
The actress also talked about how she gravitated towards acting as a young child, and what it was like working with such Hollywood legends as director Alfred Hitchcock, and actors including John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and others.
Readers of Always Young and Restless will discover that Scott’s memory is uncanny: She has the ability to recall most of her life in vivid detail. Alas, there are pros and cons to having such impressive recall, as the bad is brought up with the good.
In addition to the big screen, Scott also auditioned for and played roles on many nighttime series. She tried out to play Marcia Brady, the role that went to Maureen McCormick, on The Brady Bunch. Scott did land the role of Ben’s (Eric Scott) girlfriend on The Waltons. While today, actors and shows try to work it out so that performers can do more than one series at a time, landing the role of Nikki Reed meant that Scott had to bid farewell to Walton’s Mountain.
Scott has never guested on The Bold and the Beautiful as many of her YR castmates have, however, she played an integral role in helping BB showrunner Bradley Bell get into the suds biz. As a teen, he watched Nikki’s early stripping days on YR and those scenes certainly caught his eye!
Scott has a deep love of comedy. She’s a huge devotee of the late Lucille Ball, star of I Love Lucy. Believe it or not, the two almost worked together on a series, but Scott reveals in the Soap Hub Insider Fireside Chat why that didn’t happen!
Chemistry is difficult to describe, but at Soap Hub Insider’s request, Scott did her best to explain the on-screen dynamic between herself and longtime leading man Eric Braeden (Victor).
