Neither a wedding crasher (Ben) nor a runaway groom (Sonny) stops Chad and Abigail from exchanging “I Do’s” this time around on Days of Our Lives (DOOL).
“People are going to get what they want,” promises Billy Flynn (Chad). “Chad and Abigail are going to get married. It’s going to happen, and it’s going to be a really special moment.”
Overcoming Obstacles
The two hurdles leading up that moment are both handled by the bride and groom. Flynn notes that Ben’s surprise arrival was the most intriguing.
“I love Rob [Robert Scott Wilson, Ben],” says Flynn. “His character has almost become like a cult character, now. Seeing him walk through the door with that glaring look was awesome.
“Chad’s first reaction was, ‘You’re not going to come back here and do this to us, again. Then, Chad and Abigail (Marci Miller) found out that he wasn’t there for them.”
For Flynn, the best part of Ben’s interruption was how Abigail reacted.
“Chad’s first instinct was to go after him, but then Abigail did,” recounts Flynn. “She just clocked him, which was pretty awesome. I think [the writers] really wanted to start giving her some strength.”
Double Wedding Foiled
Hurdle number two — the double wedding resuming, only to have Sonny run out in the middle of it — was more heartfelt. Chad and Abigail can’t help but feel some guilt going through with their ceremony, when Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Paul’s (Christopher Sean) was essentially ruined.
“At first, they’re not going to do it, because of Sonny and Paul,” shares Flynn. “Ultimately, it’s their friends who say, ‘Do it. We wouldn’t be able to live with ourselves if you didn’t.’”
Single Wedding On
So Chad and Abigail opt to proceed with their vows. “They decide, ‘Let’s just get this done,” continues Flynn.
“Because in their hearts they’ve always been married. This is just a formality. So they have their moment. There’s a lot of tension leading up to it and, obviously, it’s not the way they would have wanted it, but they do it.”
According to Flynn, the wedding that actually takes place is not the one that was initially planned.
“It’s not going to be a big thing,” says Flynn. “Chad and Abigail end up [marrying] with a few people that they care about there and their son.
“It’s a cute moment and, quite honestly, the way I would have preferred it to be just because of the romantic in me. The double wedding was cool, but I think it was important to give them their own moment.”
Onto the Honeymoon
Flynn notes that he and Miller both had input with their characters’ wedding vows. “I think we both tweaked ours,” he notes. “With vows you always have to, to really be true to your story. I always try to keep it to my experiences and sort of the way that I feel about Abigail as Chad.”
In the end, Flynn believes viewers will be satisfied with Chad and Abigail’s nuptials. “It may not be exactly what they wanted, but it’s going to be close to what they dreamed of,” he assures, adding that the pair’s honeymoon night is “special,” too.
“It’s going to be true to who they are. Chad and Abigail are both just goofballs at the end of the day. I remember it being kind of funny.”
