Jenn Tran ended her season of The Bachelorette with a broken heart. The man she gave her final rose to dumped her in a 15-minute phone call. However, it turns out that she dodged a bullet. Details of his shady past came out. Fans are calling for the dating competition to step up its security measures.

Devin Strader Harrassed Former Girlfriend

On Wednesday, September 18th, blogger Reality Steve first broke the news about Jenn Tran’s former fiance, Devin Strader’s arrest seven years ago. His ex-girlfriend issued a restraining order against him.

The woman, who remained anonymous, outlined the gruesome details about the physical abuse she endured. She filed a restraining order with the Baton Rouge Police Department.

According to the legal documents obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Strader was arrested in March 2017 for breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home. He also allegedly started a fire, showed up at her home unannounced, and called her multiple times per day.

Tran’s season was already met with controversy. Other questionable suitors made their way into the dating competition. Fans called Tran’s season one of the worst in the franchise’s history. It’s disappointing, considering she was the show’s first Asian American lead.

What is the Vetting Process for The Bachelorette?

This raises questions about the show’s vetting process. ABC and Warner Bros, the production companies behind the show, run background checks on the applicants.

Both contestants and leads must undergo a background check, psychological evaluation, and STD screening before appearing on The Bachelorette. In addition, the clause in the show’s application states that applicants who have a felony or restraining order against them can’t appear on the show.

What did Strader’s background check find? Sources associated with the production told Deadline that his arrest came up in the vetting process. He was questioned about the charge he got for trespassing but embellished the truth.

Production maintains that its vetting process is “exhaustive” and that it takes the “safety of our contestants very seriously.” Critics claim that more needs to be done, like multiple background checks, to ensure the safety of the female leads. Do you agree? Let us know in the comment section.
