Nina Reeves may have been denied visitation of her grandson Wiley on General Hospital, but she found something else instead — greater support from Sonny Corinthos. However, Nina’s still in the dark that Willow Tait is her long-lost daughter. Soap Hub chatted with her portrayer, Cynthia Watros, about recent revelations related to her character.
Cynthia Watros Talks Sonny’s Love
To everyone’s surprise, Sonny (Maurice Benard) took the witness stand when Nina went to court to try to get legal visitation to her grandson Wiley (Viron Weaver). He admitted that it wasn’t just Nina who kept him from his family but Sonny, himself, refused to try to track down his missing loved ones. Sure, he had amnesia, but Sonny knew he had a wedding ring. He knew that there was someone out there who loved him. Nevertheless, the judge denied Nina’s petition but she walked away with the knowledge that Sonny truly cares about her.
Soap Hub: How did it make Nina feel when Sonny testified on her behalf?
Cynthia Watros: I think she feels conflicted. She truly does love and care for Sonny. She doesn’t want to ever hurt him.
Soap Hub: Does Nina regret taking this matter to court?
Cynthia Watros: She wanted to fight this battle. She loves her grandson. She’d never hurt Wiley. She feels like it’s her duty to do whatever she can to be a part of this little boy’s life. She wasn’t asking anything from Sonny. The fact that he volunteered to go on the stand and say that he believes Nina belongs in Wiley’s life was very touching. However, Nina doesn’t want it to severe the relationship he has with his family. She knows how important that is because she doesn’t have much of an [immediate] family.
Soap Hub: That she knows of! The audience knows that Willow (Katelyn MacMullen) is Nina’s daughter even if Nina doesn’t know it just yet. This is a bit unique for you.
Cynthia Watros: I agree. This is the first time that the audience knows something about my character that that my character doesn’t know. I love that switch. I’m looking forward to seeing how that is going to play out. I love Katey. I love working with her. I feel very blessed to be able to share a story with her. I think the writers have done an amazing job with weaving these storylines together. I’m so appreciative of them making Nina complex and well-rounded. I feel more and more that she’s become this really interesting complicated woman. I love her.
