Darin Brooks has been on The Bold and the Beautiful as Wyatt Spencer for a decade, and he’s played out a lot of story during that time. Now, Soap Hub presents the second part of our chat with the beloved actor.
Darin Brooks: The Fun Has Just Begun
Soap Hub previously chatted with Brooks about how he came to join B&B and Wyatt’s dynamic with TV brother Scott Clifton (Liam). While the two brothers have competed for the same women (Steffy, Hope), Wyatt’s had his own unique relationships that don’t involve his brother. Find out Brooks’s thoughts on working with both Heather Tom (Katie), Katrina Bowden (Flo), and more!
When Wyatt Re-Met Flo
Bowden was introduced as Flo in early 2019. The former Las Vegas casino worker played an unwitting role in the kidnapping of baby Beth after the fact. Her role expanded on the show after viewers learned that she was Wyatt’s childhood sweetheart from his time in Las Vegas.
“Katrina is amazing,” raves Brooks. “I’ve honestly never had a bad experience with a co-star. They all get it, and everyone’s cool. Katrina is such a sweetheart. She got thrown into the story with Wyatt and Sally [Courtney Hope] and the baby-stealing. I felt like maybe her character wasn’t given enough time for the audience to get behind her as much as they could have.”
Brooks applauds the story twist in which Flo was not only revealed to be a surprise Logan relative (the late Storm is her dad), who then donated a kidney to an ailing Katie — who was also one of Wyatt’s love interests. “I can’t say enough good things about ‘HT,'” Brooks says, affectionately calling Tom by her initials. “HT is the best. She’s top-notch. Heather’s at the top of her game. She can do anything in any scene. I had a blast working with her. I loved playing the Wyatt/Katie story.”
Darin Brooks: Wyatt Brings the Joy
Wyatt and Katie came into each other’s orbit after his marriage to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) fell apart, and Katie’s union with Wyatt’s dad Bill (Don Diamont), hit an impasse over his feelings for Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang). “I love the whole ‘secret’ element to Katie and Wyatt,” Brooks shares. “The best part about their relationship, I feel, was Wyatt trying to get Katie to open up again. She’d had her heart broken. Wyatt’s this fun ball of energy.
“What Wyatt does best is he gets people to open up,” Brooks offers. “He did that with Hope and with Steffy. He got her back out on that motorcycle. He did it later with Sally when they both needed to be brought back to life. With Katie, Wyatt helped her have fun again — to live life, experience things, laugh, and joke. We had so much fun shooting our scenes together. I love the message of bringing fire and spark back to someone’s life.”
After Katie and Wyatt split, they fell out of each other’s orbits. One day, he dropped by Forrester Creations to speak with her, and Katie greeted him with a knowing tone in her voice that spoke to the couple’s past. “Oh, hey, Wyatt,” Katie smiled. “That’s what’s so amazing about Heather,” Brooks says. “It’s why she has, like, 17 Daytime Emmys. She makes great choices. She’s so good.”
Wyatt’s Next Decade
Brooks isn’t sure what’s next for Wyatt, but if he had his choice, he’d like to see more of Wyatt and the absent Flo’s relationship explored. (They are still engaged to be married, after all!) Plus, there’s the mystery of why Wyatt and his mother, Quinn (Rena Sofer), made a hasty exit from Las Vegas all those years ago. “I love Katrina and hope they bring Flo back,” the actor says. As for Wyatt and Quinn leaving Sin City, Brooks says, “We don’t know why they left. Maybe something from their past could come back to haunt them?”
