They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but we wonder what good is a picture when you can’t recognize the subject? Above is a snapshot of a future star of soaps, but can you guess who this handsome mass of curls grew up to be?
Star Of The Soaps
Obviously this young man (now all grown up) is either currently starring in, or is an alum of, one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless – but that’s probably not enough of a hint.
So try these on for size. He is a classically trained pianist. He studied acting under the auspice of Lee Strasberg. He has appeared in seven daytime soap operas. His film debut came courtesy of a Clint Eastwood effort. His hobbies include composing and playing music, writing, and photography.
But just who can he be? Is this a photograph of Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester, BB), Peter Reckell (ex-Bo Brady, DAYS), John J. York (Mac Scorpio, GH), or Vincent Irizarry (ex-David Chow, YR)?
Thorsten Kaye
In his spare time, Kaye enjoys music and writing – he is a published poet after all – and he has appeared in a number of daytime soaps. However, the current total stands at four – One Life to Live (ex-Patrick Thornhart), Port Charles (ex-Dr. Ian Thornheart), All My Children (Zach Slater), and BB – not the seven previously established. So he isn’t today’s featured star.
Peter Reckell
Reckell has only appeared in two daytime dramas – As the World Turns (ex-Eric Hollister) and DAYS – and he’s more likely to spend his downtime practicing martial arts or yoga or going mountain climbing. So he isn’t the answer to today’s identity query.
John J. York
And neither is York. He’s appeared in TV series such as Dynasty, Hotel, and Werewolf but York is best known for playing GH’s Mac Scorpio – a role he’s also played on both Port Charles and All My Children.
Vincent Irizarry
Irizarry began studying the piano at age 11 and, after being classically trained on the instrument, he continued his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He eventually turned his attentions towards acting, which resulted in his winning a scholarship to the famed Lee Strasberg Theater Insitute.
In 1983, Irizarry landed his first acting role: Brandon “Lujack” Luvonaczek on the CBS serial Guiding Light. In time, Irizarry would rack up an impressive daytime resume which would include roles on Santa Barbara (ex-Dr. Scott Clark), All My Children (ex-Dr. David Hayward), YR, DAYS (ex-Deimos Kiriakis) and BB (ex-Dr. Jordan Armstrong).
At one point he returned to GL in the role of Nick McHenry, who was revealed to be Lujack’s identical twin and he also carried the role of Dr. David Hayward over to One Life to Life for a brief time. Irizarry’s first feature film – 1986’s Heartbreak Ridge – served as Clint Eastwood’s 12th time in the director’s chair.
So, if you guessed that the future star of soaps seen in the image above was Vincent Irizarry, then you were absolutely correct!
