They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but we wonder what good is a picture when you can’t recognize the subject? Above is a snapshot of a future star of soaps, but can you guess who this bundled up, snowman maker grew up to be?
Star Of The Soaps
Obviously this young man (now all grown up) is either an alum of a long-ago classic – like Another World – or is currently starring in, or are an alum of, one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless – but that’s probably not enough of a hint.
So try these on for size. He studied acting technique under numerous teaching luminaries. He has extensive stage experience. He made his TV debut in an episode of a primetime soap opera. He appeared in an episode of The Nanny. He has appeared in multiple daytime dramas. And he was one-half of a popular supercouple who eventually reunited with the co-star on yet another daily serial.
But just who can he be? Is this a photograph of George Reinholt (ex-Steve Frame, Another World), Wayne Northrop (ex-Roman Brady, DAYS), Stephen Nichols (ex-Stefan Cassadine, GH), or Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott, YR)?
George Reinholt
During his reign as AW’s much-beloved Steve Frame, Reinholt was paired opposite Jacqueline Courtney’s Alice Matthews, resulting in a massively popular coupling. When both actors were dismissed from that show, they reunited on One Life to Live where they played former lovers Tony Lord and Pat Ashley.
But unlike today’s featured star, Reinholt never appeared on an episode of The Nanny – he had been long retired from acting by the time of its debut – and his career began with a role on yet another daytime soap: Erik Fulda on The Secret Storm.
Wayne Northrop
Northrop spent three years playing DAYS’ top cop Roman Brady and the lover (and eventual husband) of Dr. Marlena Evans. But though Northrop did eventually reunite with Evans’ portrayer Deidre Hall, it was back at his old stomping grounds and during a period when he was playing, not Roman Brady, but an entirely new character, Dr. Alex North.
Peter Bergman
Bergman has two daytime soaps under his belt – All My Children and YR. And it was at the former that he played Dr. Cliff Warner, the Romeo to Nina Cortland’s (Taylor Miller) Juliette. However, the two actors never reunited on the serial that Bergman has called home since 1989. So he isn’t today’s featured star – despite his guest spot on The Nanny.
Stephen Nichols
Nichols honed his craft under the auspice of Stella Adler, Jack Colvin, and Harry Mastrorgeorge, and his innate talents translated into award-winning performances for theatrical productions like Pieces of Time, Delirious, and The Lizard King.
Nichols made his acting (and film) debut in the picture A Different Story – where he played “Man at Bath.” The Aaron Spelling-produced serial Dynasty marked his introduction to television audiences, but it was his role as DAYS’ Steve “Patch” Johnson that would make him famous – thanks in large part to his pairing opposite Mary Beth Evans who played Kayla Brady.
The two actors reunited on General Hospital where he played Stefan and she played scheme queen Katherine Bell. His other acting credits include an episode of The Nanny and a role on The Young and the Restless.
So, if you guessed that the future star of soap seen in the image above was Stephen Nichols, then you were absolutely correct!
