They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but we wonder what good is a picture when you can’t recognize the subject? Above is a snapshot of a future star of soaps, but can you guess who this befeathered little beauty grew up to be?
Star Of The Soaps
Obviously this young woman (now all grown up) is either an alum of a long-ago classic (As the World Turns and Guiding Light for example) or they are currently starring in, or are an alum of, one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless – but that’s probably not enough of a hint.
So try these on for size. She has an extensive background in dance and musical theater. She has appeared on Broadway. She is a soap hopper and a Daytime Emmy Award nominee. And she has appeared in a number of serials exclusive to the Internet.
But just who can she be? Is this a photograph of Colleen Zenk (ex-Barbara Ryan, ATWT), Suzanne Rogers (Maggie Horton Kiriakis, DAYS), Constance Towers (ex-Helena Cassadine, GH), or Kim Zimmer (ex-Reva Shayne Lewis, GL)?
Suzanne Rogers
Rogers had developed an interest in dancing at the age of 2 and by the time she was 18, she was performing with the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. Subsequently, Rogers joined the casts of several Broadway musicals including Coco, Hallelujah Boy, and Follies. However, unlike today’s featured star, Rogers is not a soap hopper (she’s only ever appeared in DAYS) and she hasn’t appeared in any web serials.
Constance Towers
Towers spent most of the 1960s and ’70s on the stage in general and Broadway in particular. Between 1965 and 1978, she starred in productions such as Anya, Show Boat, Carousel, The Sound of Music, and The King and I.
Afterward, she returned to her work on television with roles in soapy programs such as Love is a Many Splendored Thing, Capitol, and GH. However, unlike today’s mystery actress, Towers hasn’t appeared in a web series.
Kim Zimmer
Soap hopper? Certainly – she’s appeared in One Life to Live (as two completely separate characters), The Doctors, GL, and Santa Barbara. Web series star? Check – she was in Steamboat (an exposé about the making of a daytime soap). But Zimmer hasn’t appeared on Broadway, though she was in the touring company of Wicked as Madame Morrible.
Colleen Zenk
Zenk began her career as a musical theater actor and dancer before segueing into television and film acting. Her first role was as a nurse on Ryan’s Hope and she quickly followed that up with films such as Christmas Evil and Annie.
Between 1978 and 2010, Zenk was on ATWT as the oft-married and mentally unbalanced Barbara Ryan – but she still continued with her theatrical endeavors. She appeared in the Broadway musical Bring Back Birdie and in subsequent decades, she could be seen in a regional tour of Hello Dolly!, a mounting of Follies, and the Broadway revival of Godspell.
So, if you guessed that the future star of soaps seen in the image above was Colleen Zenk – who has had roles in web series such as Thurston, Tainted Dreams, Milgram and the Fastwalkers, and After Forever – then you were absolutely correct!
