When opportunity knocks, they say that the brave answer the call. And sometimes they are rewarded beyond their wildest imagination. So which soap star fits this bill?

Who Is The Soap Star In Question?

All of these actresses portray a character on one of the four remaining soaps – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. But only one of them can claim that she moved to Hungary in order to appear in a feature film… and wound up staying in the country for over five years!

But who can that actress be? Is it Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke Logan, BB), Arianne Zucker (Nicole Walker, DAYS), Kathleen Gati (Liesl Obrecht, GH), or Sasha Calle (Lola Rosales, YR)?

Katherine Kelly Lang

Lang is known far and wide for her work on BB. After all, the CBS soap is the most watched daily serial and its audience surpasses 35 million. And Lang has been able to parlay that success into acting jobs in foreign countries.

She’s played herself in episodes of Neighbours and Isidingo – an Australian and South African soap opera, respectively. And she also had roles in Dagli Occhi Dell’Amore (an Italian film) and 8 Lexeis, a Greek soap opera. However, she has yet to tackle projects filming in Hungary.

Arianne Zucker

The years Zucker spent modeling certainly saw her traveling far afield (France, Japan, and Australia) but her acting career has kept her pretty grounded to the ole U.S. of A.

Sasha Calle

Calle knows a thing or two about relocating from one’s home to a foreign country. But her experience was a move from Massachusetts to Colombia rather than from the U.S. to Hungary. “[My mother’s] side of the family is there and she just had this spur of the moment, ‘I wanna move to Colombia!’ It was a beautiful place but there was a language barrier.”

Kathleen Gati

In 1992, Gati (by then an All My Children alum) traveled to Hungary (the birthplace of parents Laszlo and Agnes) to appear in the film Goldberg variácók – for which she won the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Hungarian Film Critics Award show.

She wound up staying there for six years during which time she joined the casts of four more films, a number of television series, and made-for-TV movies produced in that country.

Of the time spent overseas, Gati has said that it was, “some of my professionally richest and most profound moments of my career.” She and her husband still vacation there, and Gati still accepts the occasional role in one of the local productions. Her work in the film Retrace earned her the 2011 Best Actress Award at the Los Angeles Hungarian Film Festival.

So, if you guessed that perhaps the daytime star in question was Kathleen Gati – who has played GH’s diabolical Liesl Obrecht on-and-off since August 24, 2012 – then you were absolutely correct!
