When it comes to storylines, soap operas have their share of highs, lows, and bona fide clunkers.
For every super plot that unfolds onscreen, there’s one that makes you scratch your head and wonder, ‘What the heck is the head writer thinking?’ Check out this list of the four worst storylines on soaps, right now.
Michael and Nelle, General Hospital
Ever since Nelle (Chloe Lanier) was transformed from vindictive bad girl to wannabe good girl, her storyline with Michael (Chad Duell) has plunged downhill. What was once an intriguing character and coupling is now a convoluted mess.
To cause conflict between the pair, the writers concocted a backstory that involves a boating accident, a dead fiancé, and Nelle suspected of foul play. It’s too wild to follow and, frankly, who cares?!
How about just letting Nelle get her groove back and ditch playing nice? Lanier’s at her best portraying devious and dirty.
The Bonnie Switcheroo, Days of Our Lives
The problem with Bonnie masquerading as Adrienne is it makes the characters who’ve had the wool pulled over their eyes look stupid. Victor (John Aniston) hasn’t caught onto her?
Justin’s (Wally Kurth) clueless that the woman he’s loved for decades is an imposter; particularly, after the racy dress she wanted to wear to Sonny’s (Freddie Smith) wedding? Maggie (Suzanne Rogers) doesn’t sense something’s off?
The saving grace has been Judi Evans’ exquisite performance in the dual role. She effortlessly differentiates between the two characters, which is a testament to her fine, Emmy-award-winning acting talent.
Victor vs. Nick, The Young and the Restless
The vitriol heaped upon Nick (Joshua Morrow) by his father Victor (Eric Braeden) has gone way too far. Evicting Nick from his home on the Newman ranch was heartless, but compounding that by clearing out his bank accounts was downright cruel.
Granted, Victor’s always been ruthless when he feels crossed, but going to these extremes against Nick isn’t credible. He’s the only son Victor has left since losing Adam (whom he went after too and look what happened!!). This father/son feud is tearing the Newman family apart and needs to be resolved – pronto!
Katie and Wyatt’s Affair, The Bold and the Beautiful
Katie (Heather Tom) and Wyatt (Darin Brooks) were in romantic limbo after their relationships with Bill (Don Diamont) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) ended, but tossing them into a red-hot affair with each other wasn’t the answer.
Katie spent years as Wyatt’s stepmom, when she was wed to Bill, and let’s not forget that she’s mother to Wyatt’s little brother, Will, too. It makes the union unspeakably twisted. Wouldn’t it be more intriguing to draw Wyatt into Sally’s (Courtney Hope) world now that Thomas (Pierson Fodé) has ditched town and her?
