Surprise Soap Kids Stir Up Trouble — But Do Fans Love Or Hate it?!

Whether it was a product of an affair or someone stole a “sample,” surprise soap kids can wreak havoc on relationships — but is the additional story worth it?

After all, Days of Our Lives (DOOL) would not have Tripp (Lucas Adams) or Lani (Sal Stowers). That means we wouldn’t have that supercouple in the making of Ciara and Tripp, nor the baby story that involved Lani, Eli, JJ, and Gabi, turning their lives upside down.

The Young and the Restless (YR) wouldn’t have Abby (Melissa Ordway) or Kyle (Michael Mealor), which would make the next generation of Abbotts almost non-existant while The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) wouldn’t have Wyatt (Darin Brooks) or Liam (Scott Clifton). What would Steffy be doing?!

And finally, General Hospital (GH) wouldn’t have Robin (Kimberly McCullough) — the greatest surprise to ever happen to Robert (Tristan Rogers). It’s almost unthinkable to imagine Port Charles without Robin and all the brought to so many storylines over the years.

Still, there are many whose story may seem a bit much and that can get on a viewer’s nerves. Soap Hub wondered where fans fall on this subject and here are the results.

So Tired
After over 3,000 votes were tallied, a whopping 79% say they are tired of surprise kid plots. How many times can we find out someone was able to steal a “sample” to have a kid without the owner of that sample finding out? Really?! How many of you know someone that happened to?

And then there are the illigitamate children who are populating soap towns. They’re the greatest payoff when a soap character strays from their loved one — complicating marriages or completely blowing them apart. It’s drama!

The other 21% understand how much new story these “surprise” kids can create and you say bring it on! After all, cast changes and additions are what keep an old soap fresh and they need to stay fresh if they’re to stay on the air.
