Vote Now: Sound off on Summertime Soap Storylines!

Summertime, and the livin’ is easy…. Of course, things aren’t always so easy in soap land, but it is summertime.

Typically summer is the time of relaxed schedules, vacations, long days and entertaining nights. On soap operas, the hotter months often bring along their own special storylines full of fun and romance and love and adventure.

Teen Scene
Since the Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) heyday on General Hospital (GH), soaps have attempted to use the beefed up summer teen scene to attract new viewers!

There have been some amazing ones over the years like Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon (Sharon Case) on The Young and the Restless (YR) or Haley (Kelly Ripa) and Mateo (Mark Consuelos) on the now canceled All My Children.

While long-time viewers often sigh when they see the teeny bopper storylines ramping up, this tactic helps attract a new generation of fans, which is part of the reason why the daytime drama endured so many decades in such quickly a changing world.

Super Adventures
From Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope’s (Kristian Alfonso) thrilling summer fighting communism on ice adventure on Days of Our Live’s (DOOL) to Y&R’s Jabot Big Brother-esque TV show Glow by Jabot, summertime adventures have hooked audiences who may otherwise be sidetracked by vacations, cookouts, and children home from school.

Often these intriguing experiences led to on location shoots, which further interested viewers. But even without locations, daytime drama can create intriguing adventure.

Romance and Love
Lately, most soaps seem to lack the romance that remains so popular for the genre. Right now Billy (Jason Thompson) and Phyllis (Gina Tognoni) seem to have the hottest moments on Y&R (although fans are quite divided on their relationship).

But what about major passion on DAYS, GH, and The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) right now? Many couples seem to be in turmoil. Could a Gabi (Camila Banus) and Chad (Billy Flynn) romance heat up this summer in Salem (if they’re ever rescued), and will anybody find long-term happiness in Port Charles?

Plus, in LA, there’s a big crazy love triangle with Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), Quinn (Rena Sofer), and Eric (John McCook), and Katie (Heather Tom) inserted herself too. Perhaps Brooke and Bill (Don Diamont) or Zende (Rome Flynn) and Nicole (Reign Edwards) will fulfill fan’s desire for a summer romance?

Something Else?
