Soaps’ Damsels In Distress: Have You Had Enough?!

Some soaps are like a daily game of Jeopardy. Only instead of ear-worm music and buzzing in to answer in the form of a question, it’s women in jeopardy.

On Days Of Our Lives (DOOL), seems like Gabi (Camila Banus) is constantly being held prisoner or used as a pawn. On The Bold and the Beautiful (BB), Sally (Courtney Hope) just had her entire professional future — and almost her life — go up in smoke.

Crystal (Morgan Obenreder) is being sex-trafficked on The Young and the Restless (YR), and on General Hospital (GH)… is there a woman that hasn’t been used as a pin-cushion on General Hospital?

It all seems a bit misogynistic, doesn’t it? Just a couple of steps above torture porn? Soaps are supposed to be love — not danger — in the afternoon. Almost 3,000 fans weighed in on how you feel about women-in-jeopardy stories.

If it’s a character you really care about, and if the payoff leads to a star-crossed couple getting together, or the bad guy getting their just desserts, you’re there for the ride!

Enough already, counter a fed up 41% of the audience. How much are these ladies — and we — supposed to take? It’s not like it’s fun to see your faves in grave danger.

They’re awesome, raves 11% of the audience. A woman in jeopardy means a woman is front and center. Plus, it allows your favorite character to show off how smart and resourceful she is, and makes the love of her life appreciate her even more. It’s a win-win!
