Opening theme songs are an important part of each soap opera. While many primetime shows did away with opening themes or kept them abbreviated in order to dive right into the action, soaps have continued to air their opening theme songs because viewers have come to expect them.
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) is the longest running theme and is very similar to its original opening with the show’s trademark hourglass.
The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) has had many variations of theme songs over its 30+ year history. Last year, it reverted back to its original them in honor of the show’s milestone anniversary.
The Young and the Restless (YR) has kept its trademark theme over the years. Back in the early 2000s, it livened things up by making the opening jazzier.
General Hospital (GH) has the shortest opening theme, which features pictures of the show’s cast.
