Who Was the Best Soap Opera Sidekick Over the Years?

On a soap opera, there’s always the person who drives the story – and the person who helps them do it.

It isn’t just a hero who needs a sidekick. Soap Hub revisits those glorious relationships of soaps past and present that have enriched our viewing pleasure.

The Young and the Restless
You can’t think of Y&R over the years without thinking of Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). But she couldn’t do all of that scheming or throw dinner parties all by herself.

She had her trusty maid Esther (Kate Linder) by her side through it all. Across town, Victor also had a sidekick for many years in Colonel Douglas Austin.

Can you imagine him getting anything done all by himself? Lucky for Victor, he didn’t have to – and now he has an entire company to do his bidding.

General Hospital
While we knew Luke Spencer (Tony Geary) better, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) was a WSB agent.

After his true sidekick, O’Reilly, died in his arms, Luke stepped up to the plate and helped Robert bring down the Cassadines and the Ice Princess.

They had several other adventures. More recently, Jason would probably be considered Sonny’s sidekick – albeit that’s a totally different dynamic and endgame.

Days of Our Lives
Jack Deveraux (Matt Ashford) never met a story he didn’t want to chase and luckily for him, he had his partner in crime, Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves) by his side.

This particular sidekick situation grew into so much more when the two fell in love. Before them, there was Calliope and Anna – but both were so ditzy, it’s hard to say which one was the lead and which one was the sidekick. Either way, they were tons of fun.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Design knockoff maven, Sally Spectra (Darlene Conley), did more scheming against Forrester Creations and Stephanie (Susan Flannery) than one could possibly imagine.

But, her daring stunts could never have happened without her trusty assistant Darla and Saul the tailor.

Their adventures were legendary. These days, Ivy is Quinn’s (Rena Sofer) sidekick and also her secret-keeper – though that one she doesn’t seem very good at.
