Soap Opera Ratings Race: SURPRISE Numbers For All Four Soaps!

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending September 8 shows all four soaps on a shocking upswing after nearly a year of bad and mixed numbers.

The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless (YR), which showed dismal numbers at the end of August, is finally seeing some relative improvement. The perpetually number one-ranked soap garnered 4,410,000 viewers on average overall, up 210,000 from the week before, yet down 214,000 from the same time last year.

While Y&R didn’t make any gains from the year before in any of the three female demographics, it did make gains in all of them from the week before.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) also did better than it did in August, pulling in 3,491,000 viewers on average overall, up 60,000 from the prior week, yet down 220,000 from the prior year.

The 30-year-old B&B made gains from the week before in two of the three female demos, yet lost viewers from the previous year in all three.

General Hospital
General Hospital (GH) also had a better week than it did at the end of August, garnering 2,462,000 viewers on average overall, up 79,000 from the previous week, but down 158,000 from the previous year.

GH also made gains from the week before in all three female demos, creeping up to the number two ranking with women 18-49 and 18-34.

Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) continued the rise it’s been experiencing over the last several weeks, although it’s slowed down a bit. DAYS pulled in 2,199,000 viewers on average overall, up 22,000 from the week before and down 50,000 from the year before.

DAYS also made gains from the prior week in all three female demos, managing the number three ranking with women 18-49.
