Soap Opera Ratings Race: Really GOOD News For One Soap, Really BAD For Another

The soap opera ratings race shows Days of Our Lives (DOOL) on an upswing for the second week in a row, while other soaps took a hit.

Days of Our Lives
After sinking ratings for months on end, DAYS looks to be showing new signs of life since Head Writer Ron Carlivati took over. The 51-year-old soap pulled in 2,177,000 viewers on average overall, up 46,000 from the week before and 19,000 from the year before.

While DAYS only made gains in the 18-34 female demographic and remained number four out of four soaps, it was the only one to add viewers overall from the prior week and year.

The Young and the Restless
The Young and the Restless (YR) maintained its decades-long number one spot, garnering 4,200,000 million viewers on average overall. However, that number was down 163,000 from the previous week and a whopping 560,000 from the previous year.

Y&R also lost viewers from the week before and year before in all three female demos, hitting new lows with women 18-49 and tying previous lows with women 18-34 and 25-54.

The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) fared slightly better in terms of gains. It pulled in 3,431,000 viewers on average overall, up 17,000 from the week before, but down 351,000 from the year before.

However, B&B did make slight gains from the previous week with women 18-34 and 25-54.

General Hospital
General Hospital (GH) made the most amount of gains from the previous week, garnering 2,883,000 viewers on average overall, up 82,000 from the week before, but down 203,000 from the same time last year.

However, the perpetually third-ranking soap overall moved to second place with women 18-49 and made gains from the prior week in all three female demos.
