Everything Old Is New Again: Should Core Families Return To Soaps?

With only four soaps still left on the air, fans are already mourning the loss of such core families as the Chandlers (All My Children), the Lords (One Life to Live), the Bauers (Guiding Light), the Hugheses (As the World Turns), and the Frames (Another World).

But there are also gaps on the remaining shows. Where are the Quartermaines of General Hospital (GH)? The Brookses of The Young and the Restless (YR)?

Is it a case of ‘Come back, all is forgiven,’ or “Out of sight, out of mind?’ Over 10,000 viewers let us know how you feel about missing core soap families, and their potential returns.

Bring Them Home
Some soaps are making moves in the right direction. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) recently revitalized the Spectra clan with Sally 2.0 (Courtney Hope), Coco (Courtney Grosbeck), and Shirley (Patrika Darbo), and Days Of Our Lives (DOOL) remembered the Grants, with Eli (Lamon Archey) even turning out to be a Horton.

Both have proven to be great additions, and 83% of you would like to see even more in that vein.

How about Brooks Prentiss returning to Genoa City as a high-powered businessman out to bring down Victor (Eric Braeden) for driving his mother, Lori (don’t write to tell me that Leslie was Brooks’ biological mother, Lori raised him), out of town and making everyone forget there’d ever been a Y&R before the Newmans and the Abbotts?

What do you think? Post a comment!

Or a resurgence of the Hardys in Port Charles? Don’t tell me Liz (Rebecca Herbst) technically is one; if she’s anything, she’s a Webber, and there aren’t that many of them left, either.

Good Riddance
On the other hand, counter 17%, there are families you’re perfectly happy to never see again. Remember that weird influx of the Ramirez family on B&B?

They were front-burner for about two years; we were supposed to care whose baby got kidnapped when and who she was now and would her parents reunite? Yeah, nobody misses them.

Same goes for Salem’s Kositecheks. One brother turned out to be the Salem Strangler, and the other well, he somehow turned into Roman Brady (Josh Taylor). Any return now would just be weird….
