Soap Opera Ratings Race: Mixed Numbers as One Soap Takes a Hit

The soap opera ratings race for the week ending September 9 shows mixed numbers for three soaps, and a record low for a fourth.

The Bold and the Beautiful
While both The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful maintained their perpetual number one and number two spots, respectively, B&B took a hit in the female 18-49 demographic. The soap pulled in an average of 3,699,000 viewers overall, and gained 251,000 from the same time last year. However, in the 18-49 demo, the soap only garnered 457,000 viewers, down 50,000 from the week before and 84,000 from the year before, setting a new low in this category.

The Young and the Restless
Sister soap The Young and the Restless pulled in 4,624,000 viewers, down 136,000 from the year before and up 61,000 from the same time last year. However, Y&R saw losses from both the previous week and year in the three female demographic categories.

General Hospital
ABC’s General Hospital remained in its number three spot, pulling in 2,620,000 viewers on average, while losing 145,000 from the same time last year. However, it did gain 32,000 viewers on average overall from the previous week. It also made slight gains from the previous week in the female 18-34 and 25-54 demographics.

Days of Our Lives
NBC’s Days of Our Lives kept its fourth place perch, with 2,249,000 overall viewers on average, up 91,000 from the week before, but down 221,000 from the year before. In slightly good news, DAYS made gains from the previous week in all three women’s demographics.
