After weeks of so-so and falling soap opera ratings for all four remaining daytime dramas, these same shows demonstrated that people tune in for the holidays–especially this year. All soaps saw markedly improved numbers from the week before.
Days of Our Lives
Days of Our Lives was once again the last place soap, but at least is no longer in free fall, making the most improvement of any soap from the week before. It pulled in 2,456,000 viewers on average, up 120,000 from the previous week, but down 9,000 from the same time last year. It also showed gains in the female demos, except women 18-49.
The Young and the Restless
The perpetually number one-rated The Young and the Restless pulled in 4,729,000 viewers overall, up 107,000 from the previous week, but down 110,000 from the previous year. In all three female demographics, Y&R showed improvements from the week before but still had less viewers from the year before.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful was the only soap to show improved numbers from both the previous week and previous year. Coming in at number two once again, B&B garnered 3,752,000 viewers on average overall, and added 48,000 from the week before and 69,000 from the year before. In the female demographic categories, it showed improvement from the week before. However, for women 18-34 and 25-54, it’s numbers dropped from the year before.
General Hospital
General Hospital showed the least improvement overall, coming in at number three and pulling in 2,688,000 viewers on average. While it was up 54,000 from the week before, it was down a whopping 162,000 from the year before, the biggest drop for all four soaps. GH also showed improvement from the previous week in the three demos, but dropped from the previous year for women 18-34 and 25-54.
