Soap Opera Producer Convicted Of Attempted Murder

In 2015, an Emmy-winning soap producer had a strange altercation with his tenant that ended in a stabbing, and now in 2017, that producer has been convicted of attempted murder.

Andre Bauth, a former producer for the digital soap, The Bay who won a Daytime Emmy for his work just months before the violent incident, faces a sentence of up to 13 years in prison for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

During the near-deadly altercation in 2015, Bauth became angry when his tenant, Clayton Haymes, laughed when the producer bragged that he would one day win five Academy Awards. Bauth then stabbed Haymes in the chest.

According to Variety, Bauth ran a chain of group homes for aspiring actors and produced and starred in a film he called El Landlord, which seems to be a case of art imitating life. Haymes also appeared in the film about a crazy landlord who starts murdering his tenants.

The stabbing took place at what was supposed to be a lighthearted gathering that turned dark and ugly after Bauth bragged and Haymes laughed.

“Then he went and grabbed his Emmy,” Haymes said. “We all kind of laughed a little bit, and that’s when he got upset. He looked at me and said, “Why are you laughing? You’ll be homeless tomorrow if I want you to.’ We were bickering back and forth. That’s when he got the kitchen knife.’

Apparently, Bauth was able to cross the border and escaped to Mexico, but eventually turned himself into the U.S. Embassy.

Bauth is scheduled to be sentenced on March 22.
