Amanda Seyfried has appeared in everything from Mean Girls, to Mamma Mia!, to Les Misérables, to Dear John over the course of her successful career… which actually started on soaps.

Along with her work in movies and soaps, Seyfried has also appeared on television shows such as Veronica Mars, Big Love, and Twin Peaks. From where she was born and raised to auditioning for Mean Girls, here are five fast facts about the amazing actress!

Who Is Amanda Seyfried?

Seyfried was born on December 3 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from William Allen High School in 2003 and enrolled in Fordham University, but she didn’t end up attending. Seyfried started modeling at a young age and appeared in ads for companies like Limited Too. She was also on the cover of the Sweet Valley High book series.

Soap Beginnings
Seyfried started taking voice lessons and acting classes when she was a teen. She then got a role as an extra on Guiding Light, which was her first TV appearance. She was then cast as Lucy Montgomery on As the World Turns before playing Joni Stafford on All My Children.

Friendly Competition
Seyfried initially auditioned to play the role of Regina George in Mean Girls, but the producers gave the role to Rachel McAdams instead. They then suggested she audition for the role of Karen, and she got the part! Then, just a couple of years later, Rachel McAdams auditioned to play Sophie in Mamma Mia!, but that role went to Seyfried!

Truth Is Stranger Than Fiction

Much like her character in Mean Girls, Seyfried is very interested in the weather. In fact, she’s revealed that if she didn’t get into acting at such a young age, she probably would’ve become a meteorologist.

Getting Personal With Amanda Seyfried
Seyfried dated her Mamma Mia! co-star Dominic Cooper from 2008 to 2010. She then dated actor Justin Long from 2013 to 2015. After meeting on the set of The Last World, Seyfried began dating Thomas Sadoski. They got engaged in 2016 and married in March 2017. They also welcomed their first child, a little girl named Nina, in March 2017.
