For those who are (ahem) old enough to remember Battle of the Network Stars, the news of an upcoming reboot on ABC is exciting enough. Now to hear soap opera stars are being included and it’s just pure awesomeness!
The idea behind the show, which premieres on June 29, is you get to see your favorite stars from one network compete against the stars of another network for the ultimate crown – bragging rights of being the best competitors.
They compete in all sorts of things, from swimming to running, and anything in between. Here are some of your favorite current and past soap stars, according to TVLine.com, who will be joining this new version.
Deidre Hall (Marlena/Hattie) from Days of Our Lives will be appearing on the “Doctors” team, along with Taye Diggs who appeared as Sugar Hill on Guiding Light.
DAYS star Galen Gering will be appearing on the TV Sex Symbols team while General Hospital star Ryan Paevey (Nathan) will be appearing on the Cops team.
Vivica A. Fox is known to soap opera fans as Maya from Generations and Carmen on Days of Our Lives — both on NBC. She was also Stephanie on The Young and the Restless and will be on Troublemakers.
Cameron Mathison (ex-Ryan, All My Children) will be on the Variety team.
Donna Mills, who was recently on General Hospital as Nina’s mother, Madeline, but also wowed audiences as Abby on Knots Landing, will be appearing for the primetime soaps team, along with Ian Ziering (ex-Cam, GL), who was on Beverly Hills, 901210.
They will compete against Shari Belafonte, who will be on the ABC Stars teams, after having recently appeared on GH as Janice.
Appearing on another Cops team will be Jodi Lyn O’Keefe (ex-Maggie, AW) and Lorenzo Lamas (ex-Hector, B&B).
On the lawyers team is Elisabeth Röhm (ex-Dorothy, OLTL) and Corbin Bernsen (Father Todd, Y&R). Jackée Harry, on TV Moms & Dads, was Lily on Another World, also on NBC.
