Off Contract? Stephen Nichols Fans FIGHT For DAYS Return

The social media world is abuzz with the news that Stephen Nichols has been off the Days of Our Lives set since March, after he and the 52-year-old soap couldn’t reach a new contract agreement.

According to reports, Nichols turned down DAYS’ offer of a one-episode a week guarantee and opted to leave instead. A one-episode a week guarantee does not mean the actor would only tape one episode a week; it just means that would be his minimum number.

With today marking 33 years since Nichols first debuted as Salem’s one-eyed bad guy turned hero with a heart of gold, his fans are using social media to voice their displeasure with DAYS for not offering the actor more and are urging the soap to re-sign him pronto before he’s missed off screen.

A tweet fest is scheduled for today in which fans will use specific hashtags, as well as tag the powers that be who can make a new contract happen. Fans plan to tweet videos and descriptions of favorite moments celebrating Nichols’ 33 years in (and out of) Salem.

This is all in an effort to see Steve and Kayla together and not lose a favorite actor and couple. Currently, Steve is blind on screen and Kayla is willing to compromise her integrity in order for Stefan to allow Steve the use of the technology his company is producing for a bionic eye.

With Nichols reportedly not taping since March, he likely has a few months left on screen since DAYS tapes about six months in advance.

Of course, the news has General Hospital fans wondering if he could return to that soap where he played Stefan Cassadine for nearly a decade. Stefan is dead, but of course, dead doesn’t mean dead on soaps.

GH and DAYS fans alike also wonder if Nichols returns to Port Charles, would Tyler Christopher follow? His character is also “dead” on GH, but his DAYS character has not caught on with fans. He was also written into a corner when he slept with Abigail’s alternate personality, an act many consider rape.

Only time will tell what will happen in this real-life, behind-the-scenes soap opera… but meanwhile, happy anniversary, Stephen Nichols. You will be missed if you stay off-screen.
