Kassie DePaiva Diagnosed With Leukemia

Veteran soap actress and returning Days of Our Lives star Kassie DePaiva shared a poignant and revealing message on her website in late summer of 2016.

The beloved star was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a type of cancer that attacks the white blood cells. The diagnosis has led to DePaiva spending much of her summer hospitalized, and she decided to share the news with fans now that her DAYS return is imminent.

DePaiva offered the following words on her site:

“I know that I have been quiet lately and I want to let you know what’s been going on in my life. I was asked back to play Eve on DAYS and had begun my exciting return. During the 3-week July hiatus, I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and have spent 6 of the last 9 weeks in the hospital.

“I will continue treatment over the next 3 months. My prognosis is good, I will not likely need a stem cell/bone marrow transplant, and we expect a complete cure. This has been a private matter but with Eve’s return coming soon I felt it was time to let my loving fans know what’s been going on.”

DePaiva began her daytime career in 1986 as Chelsea Reardon on CBS’s Guiding Light. She played the role until 1991 and in 1993, she took over the role of Blair Cramer on One Life to Live. After OLTL was cancelled, she brought the character to General Hospital for a short time. She then began playing Eve Larson on Days of Our Lives in 2014 but left the show earlier this year. Eve is expected onscreen again next month when she returns to town for sister Theresa’s wedding.
