Veteran soap hopper Barbara Crampton has some big career news that doesn’t involve daytime.
The actress, best known to fans of The Young and the Restless as Leanna Love, has been cast in the Syfy series Channel Zero, set to air later this year.
EW first reported the news that Crampton will star in Channel Zero: The Dream Door as Vanessa Moss, who has a close relationship with Tom Hodgson’s character, Brandon Scott, a newlywed.
Brandon and his bride, Jillian (Maria Sten), discover a strange basement door in their home as secrets threaten not only their marriage but their very lives!
Crampton is a fan favorite who has appeared on four daytime soap operas. She began her career as Marlena’s (Deidre Hall) sweet cousin Trista Evans on Days of Our Lives, who met her fate at the hands of the Salem Slasher.
Next, Crampton landed what could be considered her signature role, that of Leanna Randolph (aka Leanna Love) on Y&R.
Leanna was the deranged former patient of Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) husband, Dr. Steven Lassister (Rod Arrants). She attempted to kill Ashley, and then assumed a less sinister but always entertaining role in Genoa City.
Leanna penned two of Victor’s memoirs including Ruthless: The Victor Newman Story (under the ghost name Nora Randall) that painted Victor in a very unflattering way.
Victor, not knowing Leanna was a force of evil, married her, hoping to take media attention off Ashley once the news of her abortion was made public. (Leanna wrote about it in the tell-all.)
Later, Leanna became Jack’s ally and Jabot sponsored Leanna’s talk show. She eventually left town only to return now and then as an on-air tabloid reporter.
Crampton also appeared on Guiding Light as Mindy and on The Bold and the Beautiful as Maggie, the ex-wife of Eric’s (John McCook) brother John (Fred Willard).
On GL, Crampton played out Mindy’s love affair with Nick (Vincent Irizarry). On B&B, Crampton’s Maggie was a cougar who went after Dylan (Dylan Neal), the boyfriend of her innocent daughter Jessica (Maitland Ward).
