Don’t you hate it when you’re watching your favorite soap and a character either vanishes or dies — and all you can think about is how much more story you know they could have had?
Soap Hub decided to take a look at the four remaining soaps and share a top moment from each that caused us to shake our heads.
The Young and the Restless
There’s no need to go too far back for an example here. Over the last week, the show gave Kristoff St. John (Neil) his best story — in which he did his best work — in ages by having his character reunite with his mother, Lucinda (Nichelle Nichols).
Their first day together lived up to the months of advanced hype and produced magical moments of exquisite drama. And then they killed her. What?!?! The story just began? Why end it before their relationship could develop. This one certainly has us doing a double take.
General Hospital
Years ago, Emily Quartermaine (Natalia Livingston) was the apple of her family’s eye, especially her father, Alan (Stuart Damon). Emily was beloved by all of Port Charles and Alan was the family patriarch — a family that is now rudderless.
Killing both characters decimated this once great Port Charles clan and caused most of its interesting storylines to disappear. Why this was done remains a mystery years later, and one we only wish could be rectified.
Days of Our Lives
The death of Will Horton was a travesty on so many levels. As the son of Sami (Alison Sweeney) and Lucas (Bryan Dattilo), he was a legacy that tied the Hortons and the Bradys together.
As an openly gay man married to the love of his life, Sonny (Freddie Smith), but also a biological father to Arianna, his storyline potential was endless. He deserved far better than to be a victim to the Batty Ben, aka Necktie Killer — and so did we. (But, now, it looks like DAYS is fixing its mistake.)
The Bold and the Beautiful
Since this soap is only a half hour long, the cast is small. The show has always revolved around two or three families and a few peripheral characters. So, when you cast aside two family members like Thorne (Windsor Harmon) and Felicia Forrester (Lesli Kay), it doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Thankfully the show is bringing them back for a special family-related plot (aren’t they all on this show?!), but why is it only for a few days? Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) needs more of his siblings around.
