Sports leagues have All-Star Games — why can’t soaps? Soap Hub asked fans if they’d ever be interested in watching one big soap that features stars from all their favorite shows.
While combining top players from sports teams into one on occasion may be a hit with sports fans, that’s not necessarily something soap supporters want to see with their daytime stars.
“Restless Hospital”?….Pass!
The majority of fans polled, 54% to be exact, voted not to have soaps combined. This is understandable since there’d be only so much air time to give multiple characters from multiple shows.
Where would it air? Netflix or Hulu?
Combo Order
The fact is that soaps already do some combining.
Several actors from The Young and the Restless (YR) have crossed over to The Bold and the Beautiful (BB), dating back to 1992 when Sheila Carter escaped her criminal past in Genoa City for a nursing job at Los Angeles-based Forrester Creations.
And now that Sheila’s (Kimberlin Brown) back on B&B, perhaps it’s only a matter of time before she returns to Y&R and she even might bring some B&B characters with her.
Conversely, Y&R’s Lauren (Tracey Bregman) might drop in on her pals at Forretser Creations and discover that her arch-nemesis isn’t dead after all!
Checking Into General Hospital
The greatest potential for more soap crossover lies with General Hospital now that ABC has won the rights back to characters from axed soaps All My Children and One Life to Live.
Despite this legal and creative victory, GH has opted to utilize familiar actors from AMC like Jennifer Bassey (ex-Marian) in new roles. Odds are James DePaiva, who’s coming onto GH, won’t be reprising his OLTL role of Max.

Salem Stands Alone
A solid amount, nearly half of voters (46%) voted yes, they would watch one big soap filled with multiple characters from different shows.
Perhaps, these voters are fans of Days of Our Lives (DOOL). That’s the one soap that currently doesn’t have a track record of bringing characters on from different shows.
Characters from defunct NBC shows don’t have ties to DAYS. If we ever were going to see Passions characters show up on DAYS, it would have been when late, great head writer James E. Reilly was writing both shows, but that time has passed.
For now, fans will have to live with occasional Y&R/B&B crossovers, the potential for AMC and OLTL characters to appear on GH, and familiar faces from other shows like Eileen Davidson (Ashley, Y&R) and Wally Kurth (Ned, GH) reprising their DAYS roles as Kristen/Susan and Justin.
