Her character, Kristina Cassadine, met a horrific end on General Hospital, but her portrayer, former soap star Jaime Ray Newman, is now an Oscar winner!
Newman and her husband, Guy Nattiv, won the Academy Award on Sunday night for Best Live Action Short Film for their film, Skin. Nattiv produced, wrote, and directed the film. Newman served as the film’s producer, too.
The film tells the story of a black man in a small blue collar town, who smiles at a white boy in a supermarket. This seemingly harmless moment pits two gangs into a war that concludes with an unbelievable backlash.
“We dedicate this to our five-month-old baby who is sitting at home with my parents watching this,” Newman said in her acceptance speech. “We hope you grow up in a world where these things don’t happen because people learn and accept each other.”
The actress/movie producer’s GH pals, including Nancy Lee Grahan (Alexis) and Tamara Braun (Kim) took to Twitter to congratulate her, and check out an Instagram photo Newman posted of herself before she headed to the awards!
