The 45th annual Daytime Emmys are getting closer and closer, with the big awards ceremony culminating in Pasadena, CA on April 29.
So, it’s time for Soap Hub to once again test your knowledge of Emmy trivia. Do you know which soap has taken home the gold the most times for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series? Read on and find out.
The Young and the Restless (YR) has been the number one-rated soap for more than two decades and has a whopping nine Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Daytime Drama, but even that’s not enough to make it the top trophy-winner in this category. However, Y&R has been nominated every year since 1983. Now that’s some streak!
Days of Our Lives (DOOL) has been on the air for 52 years and won its first Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series back in 1978. However, it didn’t win again until 2013, and then again in 2015 when it tied with The Young and the Restless.
The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) has been around for 30 years, but it took a long time until it won its first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. In fact, it didn’t receive that honor until 2009, and then won again the following two years in 2010 and 2011.
General Hospital (GH) premiered in 1963 and didn’t take home an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series until 1981. (Granted, the Daytime Emmys were a 1970s creation). It’s taken home the gold 12 more times since, including the last two years in 2016 and 2017, making it the all-time record holder for Best Show Emmy statuettes.
