Some of soaps’ most fascinating characters are in dire need of meaty new storylines.
For weeks and, in some cases months, they’ve been languishing in various states of confusion, depression and lack of any real direction. Here’s a list of four characters the writers need to pen front burner plots for–pronto.
Eric, Days of Our Lives
Since leaving the priesthood and serving time for Daniel’s murder, Greg Vaughan’s Eric has been–in a word–a directionless mess. His going-nowhere romance with Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) has given way to a rekindling of things with his first love Nicole (Arianne Zucker).
There’s only one problem: Zucker is leaving the soap, which means things can’t go anywhere. Vaughan needs something new and fun to play; something that takes him back to the upbeat, good guy Eric of old.
Kristina, General Hospital
Kristina is a fabulously complicated young woman, played to perfection by Lexi Ainsworth. Her confusion over her sexuality was briefly touched upon, when she discussed the situation with Lucas, who urged her not to label herself as gay or straight.
It left the door open for all kinds of storytelling, but, sadly, the show’s writers ever walked through it. Having Kristina’s ex-lover Parker (Ashley Jones) move to town is a great first step–as is her friendship with Valerie. But what about bringing a man into the mix – like Kristina’s teenage infatuation, Ethan – to have her really have to grapple with who she is?
Mariah, The Young and the Restless
Camryn Grimes’ return to The Young and the Restless as Cassie’s twin, Mariah, was a brilliant twist and a welcome addition to the show. She’s a natural gritty actress who can do it all. But, so far her storylines have lacked luster.
First, there was the failed romance with Kevin (Greg Rikaart). Now’s she’s Devon’s (Bryton James) rebound romance and viewers are confused about what her kiss with Tessa meant. Grimes deserves better. The actress should be carrying a story instead of supporting one.
Sally, The Bold and the Beautiful
Her fashion house is in shambles, and she’s lost the man she loves now that Thomas (Pierson Fode) has split town. It’s all seriously bad news for Sally Spectra. The feisty designer needs to find a new direction and fast. Courtney Hope is too good to be wasted on the sidelines.
Now that’s she’s sort of, kind of friends with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) how about if she hires her to temp at Forrester Creations, where Sally becomes an overnight sensation?
